Chinese Automaker SGMW also known as SAIC-GM-Wuling group, has launched Baojun E100, its first fully electric vehicle exclusively for masses in China starting at just ¥35,800 or $5,400 (or roughly 3,46,799 INR). It comes in two variants with plenty of useful features.
Who is SAIC-GM-Wuling Group
SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile known as SGMW is a joint venture between SAIC Motor, General Motors, and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co Ltd. Based in Liuzhou, Guangxi, China, it makes commercial and consumer vehicles sold in China under the Wuling and Baojun marques, respectively.
A major mass-volume producer in the Chinese interior, in 2011 SGMW sold 1,286,000 vehicles in China, 1,445,000 in 2012, and aims to sell 2 million cars annually. Its offerings range in price from US$5,000 to US$10,000.
The company claims that the two-seater E100 EV looks similar to one of Mercedes-Benz smart cars and also said that it’s a perfect model for Chinese people who don’t prefer big cars and would rather prefer low-maintenance vehicles.
Baojun E100 Features
The E100 is powered by a single motor that produces 110 Nm of torque and 29 kW of motoring power. It can travel up to 155 km on a single charge making it an excellent choice for many urban daily commutes in China.
People who love to drive fast are less likely to enjoy E100 as being an EV it maxes out at a modest 62mph that converts to a speed of around 100 km/h. It is powered by a lithium-ion battery which takes up to 7.5 hours to fully charge and allows you to travel up to 96 miles or 155 km on a full charge.
With a wheelbase of 1,600 mm and height of 1,670 mm, the compact E100 seats up to two adults comfortably. Its turning radius of 3.7 meters enables it to get in and out of tight spaces conveniently. The Baojun E100 has an independent front-wheel suspension and single-arm rear suspension.
This electric car is also fitted with a 7-inch display and has in-built Wi-Fi connectivity. Also, the premium model of this car will also come with touchpad and air filter. It also boasts of beautiful interior and premium upholstery that has been designed in two colors.
The Baojun E100 EV will also come with impressive features such as anti-locking brake system with electronic brakeforce distribution, electric power steering, parking sensors and an electronic parking brake. E100 also has an ISOFIX locks for child safety seats for enhanced security. It also has a pedestrian alarm system that set this car right for the local streets in the city.
The Baojun E100 electric car will also be available with keyless entry. It’s a budget car, but it will come with beautiful interiors and many features that are usually reserved for luxury cars. It’s a compact car and an ideal choice for those looking for a beautiful, but a low-maintenance vehicle for daily use.
SAIC-GM-Wuling group had already begun limited pre-sales of 200 cars initially in Liuzhou, Guangxi. More than 5,000 people have already registered for E100 EV and that makes it a huge success in budget car market. Due to its rising demand, another 500 vehicles will be available starting on 22nd July, 2017, with sales initially limited to Guangxi.
